This smartphone snaps in a semicircle

To banish the front camera from the display, the smartphone manufacturers have designed extending pop-up cameras, or rotatable main cameras that take on the front camera job when needed. Asus now wrestles extra functions from the rotation.

uses a rotating dual camera on the new Zenfone 6. As a special feature, the module can be rotated by motor between the starting and end position infinitely 180 degrees and stopped, as the manufacturer tells. This should give the user the freedom to photograph from all possible angles without having to get lost. In addition, Asus has implemented with the swivel camera functions such as assisted panoramic shots or a motif tracking in videos.

The module housing, which consists of a high-strength metal alloy, put a bright (f / 1.79) 48 megapixel and an ultra wide-angle camera (125 degrees) with 13 megapixels (MP) and a real-time distortion correction. The 48 MP camera can record 4K video at up to 60 frames per second. An acceleration sensor detects that the device has fallen down so that the camera module can be parked in the safe starting position at lightning speed.

Display, battery power, list price

The virtually frameless full HD Plus display of the smartphone measures 6.4 inches (2340 by 1080 pixels), and is expected to reach a maximum brightness of 600 nits. Asus’ processor uses Qualcomm’s top Snapdragon 855 CPU. With its 5000 mAh (mAh) battery, the smartphone weighs 190 grams.
