The car year 2019 is all about change. Electric mobility is slowly gaining momentum and arriving in the mass market, while at the same time conventional drives remain central. We show what novelties await you as a new car buyer.Picture show: All new cars 2019 >>
We list 180 novelties for the year 2019, with Audi leading the car year with a total of 19 new models. Behind them are BMW with 18 models, Mercedes with 17 new cars and Porsche with 14 cars. Ford and Volkswagen share fifth place with nine new models each. The SUV boom, on the other hand, does not seem to be waning in 2019 either: we count 64 new SUVs, with and without four-wheel drive, with and without electric drive.
2019, the first e-car year
And yet, 2019 is the first true e-car year 2019: Why? To the current Stromern such as Renault Zoe, BMW i3 and Smart ed join models that fan the range in terms of price, size and range far. Even within the VW Group roll in the coming year next to the ID models with the VW logo and e-cars from Seat and Skoda to the dealers. The Modular Electrical Construction Kit (MEB) of the VW Group forms the common basis and is intended to make the customer friendly again with acceptable prices. The development department of the group colleagues in Ingolstadt also tinkering. Audi is missing next to the big e-tron nor a compact electric car for the city. It is rumored to be a kind of Q2 e-tron, a successor to the spherical A2 aluminum icon that Audi built from 1999 to 2005.
The Stromer of the German automakers generate 2019 for the first time considerable volumes. As the prognosis of IHS Markit shows, the worldwide production of electric vehicles of the Germans jumps into completely new dimensions: at Audi, it increases tenfold compared to the previous year. Finally, the stout Audi e-tron joins the sleeker e-tron Sportback. Production at Mercedes increases fifteenfold – driven by the new E flagship EQC. And for the first time Mercedes combines the fuel cell and the battery drive with the GLC F-Cell. This very special plug-in hybrid “fuels” electricity and pure hydrogen. Within three minutes, the hydrogen supply is replenished – provided that a corresponding gas station can be found. When the battery is full, the total range is 480 kilometers.
National and international regulations will continue to determine the amount and timing of sales pressure. The e-car sales will be boosted in 2019, and there may be a shift in opinion if the delivered pure e-cars (EV) also produce satisfied customers.
2019, a new golf year
And what happens on the side of conventional drives? Let’s stay in the VW group. While the ID is responsible for the experiments in the Group, Germany’s bestseller, even in the eighth generation, may simply remain itself.
At least there is little need for action with the package. Already, the ratio of outside to inside dimensions is very good, which is also due to the more conservative straightforward form. Therefore, the dimensions change only slightly, a few millimeters more in width, length and wheelbase are expected and thus probably a little more space for the passengers. Above all, the engines are changing, since the previously much in demand diesel much less important. VW is therefore planning different gasoline hybrid variants. Mild hybrids with no electric range play just as much a role as variants with electrically driven rear axles. In between: the 1.5 TSI with 48 volt belt starter generator.
The plug-in hybrid GTE is to be offered in the Golf VIII in two performance levels, which have different sized e-motors and battery sizes. Up to 90 km electrical range should be possible. The GTI, however, continues to drive exclusively a combustor, namely the two-liter TSI engine, which should make about 250 hp.
