Stamford (dpa) – According to market research firm Gartner, global sales in the fourth quarter of 2018 slumped by 4.3 percent after two quarters of growth.
Overall, the market in 2018 fell year-on-year by 1.3 percent. As a result of the CPU bottleneck, the vendors would not be able to meet the demand, especially for corporate customers, said Gartner analyst Mikako Kitagawa . However, Gartner expects demand to continue in 2019.
Overall, economic and political uncertainties in some countries have dampened PC business. For private users, demand remained weak even during the Christmas season. World Leader Lenovo was able to further expand its leadership position with a market share of 22.5 percent, followed by HP (21.7 percent market share) and Dell (16.2 percent). Apple defended its position in fourth place (6.9 percent market share), followed by Acer (6.1 percent) and Asus (6.0 percent) in fifth and sixth place respectively.
