Kuwait
On the Arabian Peninsula on the Persian Gulf, the Emirate of Kuwait is one of the richest countries in Arabia. The small monarchy state has become rich by the petroleum cork and offers some scenic beauties. Of the approximately three million inhabitants, around 90 per cent live in the metropolitan region of Kuwait City – the cultural and economic center of the country. The metropolis on the Gulf of Persia offers numerous magnificent buildings, over 700 mosques and numerous leisure and entertainment offers. The three Kuwait towers, which were completed in the late 1970s, represent the landmark of this rich port city.
From the tower restaurant you have a great view over the exciting metropolis. One of the sights is the old Souq of Kuwait City, where you can buy all sorts of goods. Attractions such as the music fountains in Abdulla Al Mubarak are among the most visited tourist facilities. The history of the country’s cultural history is also rich in the National Museum in the capital. The emirate is traditionally the home of pearl pies and spice traders. People are considered to be very hospitable and open. Beautiful beaches on the Gulf of Persia can be found on the island of Failaka. The holiday island is located about 20 kilometers off the coast near Kuwait City and has a large resort complex in the south. Here you will find hotels, restaurants and archaeological sites. The ad-Dibdiba desert is a large part of the country which invites you to numerous outdoor activities such as off-road trips.
Location
The Emirate of Kuwait belongs to the Middle East and is surrounded by Iraq and Saudi Arabia on the Persian Gulf. The coastal line is almost 500 kilometers long. Kuwait City is the capital of Kuwait . Around 2.5 million people live here. The inner city, however, has only about 70,000 inhabitants. From Kuwait City, there are long-distance routes to Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
A few kilometers south of the metropolis is the international airport of Kuwait, which has been extensively renovated and rebuilt in the recent past. The port of the capital is Kuwait’s main transshipment port. In addition to the ad-Dibdiba desert, the coastal strip of the Persian Gulf occupies most of the land. Kuwait is a constitutional hereditary monarchy with a Bedouin culture and in the hinterland of deserts with oases. The country is the traditional home of Bedouins, but has a high number of immigrants. Islam is a state religion. The majority of the inhabitants are Sunnis. Natural gas production and tourism have been promoted in Kuwait for years after oil.
Attractions
Almost all the sights of the country are located in Kuwait city . The new landmark of the city is the Al Hamra Tower, which was built between 2005 and 2011 and is 413 meters high. Buildings such as the Liberation Tower, a 372-meter high television tower, determine the skyline of the economic metropolis. Previously, the three water towers of Kuwait City were the landmark. The wealth of the Islamic gods has also benefited from the wealth.
There are hundreds of interesting mosques in the metropolis, such as the Al-Masjid Al-Kabeer Mosque in the city center. The mosque is one of the largest mosques in the Arab world. The oldest building in the city is the Seif Palace, rebuilt after the Iraq conflict and traditionally the home of the emir. Kuwait City has many interesting museums. These include the National Museum and the Tareq Rajab Museum, which exhibits old Arab exhibits such as jewelery. Traditional fabrics and carpets can be admired in the Al Sadu House, formerly a Persian trading family. In the Kuwait metropolis, the old Dhau port is located next to the Souq.
Activities
The numerous markets in Kuwait City are interesting points of interest for tourists. They are usually named after the main commodity groups, so there is a gold market in the center or a camel market on the southern city boundary. There are many fully-equipped shopping centers for shopping.
Northwest of the city, there is a large entertainment park, modeled on US-American adventure parks. A classy address in Kuwait is the city of Al Khiran with its marina. The huge Yachthafen was artificially built into the coastal landscape of the Gulf. Here you will find upscale accommodations and very good bathing facilities. From Kuwait City you can take the ferry to the island of Faylakah with its clean beaches and hotel facilities on the south coast. Adventurous excursions with the off-road vehicle or camels offer themselves into the desert.
