MOM SHOVED & SCREAMED AT HER KID FOR DROPPING A PIECE OF CHICKEN. THE REASON
WHY SHE DID IT IS HEARTBREAKING.

I was outside of a Johnny Rockets counter in Magic Mountain with some friends when this lady shouts at her son (six
or seven maybe) loud enough that he fell to his knees & started crying. Why? Because he dropped a piece of chicken.
She just shoved him & screamed “You’re not getting anymore!” The kid just stays on the ground, sobbing. Everybody turns out, maintaining a poker face.
I don’t even know how to describe the feeling I had. I felt physically ill, it made me so upset. I calmed down, and then decided I was going to talk to her. I said “Excuse me, I’m not a parent. But you really hurt your son, and I don’t think it’s right.”
She just looked at me, so I continued. “I work with kids about his age, and I know it’s frustrating. But you’re a lot bigger and stronger than he is. You shouted at him for a small mistake.”
She started to cry. Apparently, the family had been struggling recently. She brought the kids to Magic Mountain to
cheer them up, but when her kid dropped the chicken (which was crazy expensive-Johnny Rockets?) she just snapped.
The kid turned out ok, and she apologized. I could tell she meant it. I could tell that this wasn’t a normal occurrence
and that she was an okay parent, so I asked the kid what he wanted & offered to pay for it. As I was about to pay for the
meal…the manager refused to accept my money and said he overheard their conversation and he’d be happy to offer a free meal than make me pay for it.
A little thought and a little kindness are often worth more than a great deal of money.
