In the eighties, the cassette player was part of the streetscape – almost like the smartphone today. Now the player is to come to the market again – with a new feature.
The cassette player could return soon: On the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter users can finance a reissue of the popular player. This reports “heise online”.
A special feature of the device: It should have a Bluetooth 5.0 connection. This allows users to connect the cassette player wirelessly with a corresponding speaker.
Everything in retro style
The cassette player is distributed by the company Ninm from Hong Kong and is called “It’s OK”. The device is similar to the Sony Walkman from the 80s and should come in the colors Sakura (pink), Evening (dark blue) and Cloud (white).
Like a walkman, the device has various control buttons, a 3.5 mm jack for headphones and draws power from two AA batteries. Users can look at the inserted cassette thanks to the transparent cover. Also, the device has a microphone that allows users to save voice recordings on tape.
Goal already achieved on Kickstarter
To finance the project, the company Ninm on Kickstarter demanded 11,423 euros. So far, 575 supporters have already invested more than 42,000 euros. According to Ninm the “Its’ Ok” cassette player will be delivered in December 2019. If you want a device, you have to pay at least 67 Euro on Kickstarter. However, it should be noted that Kickstarter projects are not always realized.
Cassettes – like many other products – are currently making a comeback. For example , the French magnetic tape manufacturer Mulann is again producing more cassettes .
Soundtracks such as “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” appeared on tape at the end of 2018. Also radio plays like “The three ???” are offered in Germany as a cassette.
