Telekom presents new wireless router on the go

With the new “Speedbox” of the German Telekom users are to be able to surf almost like at home on the way. The high-speed takeaway hotspot offers enough data volume – but can the battery last until the end of the journey?

The “Speedbox” is a wireless router to take away. Users can set up the cube-shaped, almost 700 grams heavy and 13 inches high box anywhere in Germany and surf either by cable or wireless with high-speed.

Telekom offers 100 gigabytes (GB) of data volume. With this, you can stream HD-quality films for about 50 hours or listen to music for 2,500 hours, according to the vendor in his press release. However, the battery lacks much earlier: the manufacturer promises up to four hours in mobile operation.

The WLAN hotspot uses the local LTE network for this purpose. Above that, speeds of up to 300 Mbit / s are possible. However, the LTE network in Germany is still patchy. A study had recently shown that network coverage is worse than in Albania . However, LTE is even being marketed as an alternative to the slower fixed-line Internet in some rural communities where fiber optic or VDSL deployment is not progressing.

Different tariffs possible

In conjunction with a two-year contract, the “Speedbox” is available for one euro. This will require a deployment fee of 39.95 euros. The 100 GB data plan also costs just under 40 euros per month.

In addition, Telekom also offers a “Speedbox Flex” tariff, a kind of prepaid model. Here, the customer must buy a data pass for 44.95 euros, if he wants to take the device on trips. He will receive 100 GB of data that can be used within the next 31 days. In addition to the deployment fee, this tariff also includes € 99.95 in acquisition costs for the mobile hotspot. Users under 28 receive special rates.

At home only with “Speedbox” usable

The cube-shaped “Speedbox” should be ready for use in a few minutes. You can use them either at home in electricity operation or mobile. For this purpose, a micro-SIM card is inserted into the device. Even at home, the “Speedbox” can be used as a Wi-Fi hotspot, but it only works in conjunction with a “Speedbox” Router Telekom.

“With the new Speedbox, our customers can use the Internet quickly and easily just where they need it, offering our customers flexibility with a high data volume in Telekom’s best network,” says Michael Hagspihl, Managing Director Private Customers.
