Because of basta. The aftermath of the memorable appearance of US President Trump at the Helsinki Summit with Kremlin chief Putin continues . First, Trump must publicly back row, then he lays down against a critic. And also Chancellor Merkel gets her fat away.
Washington (AP) – US President Donald Trump has countered the accusation that he has too great sympathy for Russia . “I’m not pro-Russian, I’m not for anyone,” said Trump in an interview broadcast this Tuesday by Fox News .
“I just want the country (the US ) to be safe.” The US and Russia controlled 90 percent of all nuclear weapons. Getting along with Russia is therefore a good thing and not a bad one.
When asked if he saw Russia as the US’s biggest adversary , Trump said, “I would not even use the word adversary, we can all work together.” Everyone could be well and everyone could live in peace.
Trump is criticized for his remarks during a press conference with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin on Monday in Helsinki . In the face of massive cross-party allegations and a devastating press echo, the president was forced on Tuesday to seek public clarification. “I accept the conclusion of our intelligence services that Russia’s interference in the 2016 election took place,” said Trump . In Helsinki , Trump had called Putin’s denial of interference “extremely strong and powerful.”
Trump described the whole dispute as a great misunderstanding . He had seen in a review of a transcript of his statements that he had promised himself. Trump had to allegations that Russia had interfered in the 2016 presidential election, responded: “I see no reason why it would be ( Russia ).”
This led to the conclusion that Trump is in line with Putin , who vehemently denies interference, and publicly backs his own intelligence services. Trump then made it clear on Tuesday that the sentence must be right: “I see no reason why it would not be Russia .”
In response to Trump’s clarification of the opposition leader told the US Senate , Democrat Chuck Schumer : “It is open 24 hours too late and at the wrong place when the. President ( Trump ) President Putin can not say directly that he and injustice we Right and that our intelligence agencies are right, it is ineffective and worse, another sign of weakness. ”
The Trump affiliated television station Fox News headlined in its online edition: ” Trump backs down.” Fox News presenter Dana Perino , then spokeswoman for ex-President George W. Bush , said, “I’d clarify that in 24 minutes, not 24 hours.”
Trump also opposed the impression on Tuesday that he had been ripped off by Putin in Helsinki . This picture was drawn by politicians and commentators after Trump’s press conference. He had been in a position of strength at the meeting with Putin , Trump said . He added, “It was a very, very good meeting”. On the night of Wednesday, Trump tweeted : “The meeting between President Putin and me was a great success, except for the fake news media.” With this term, Trump means all the media that are set against him critically.
Even after Trump’s clarification, no peace returns. The President attacked in the Fox interview one of his harshest critics, former director of the US secret service CIA , John Brennan . He had called Trump’s appearance in Helsinki on Monday as “treacherous”. “I think he’s a very bad person,” Trump said .
Criticism of Trump had ignited but not only on his statements to the Russian electorate. There was also a lack of understanding that the US was partly to blame for the poor relations with Moscow and that the Ministry of Justice’s investigation into the Russia affair drove a wedge between the two countries. Even one of Trump’s biggest supporters , Republican Newt Gingrich, spoke of the “most serious mistake of his presidency.”
After a turbulent NATO summit and Trump’s irritating remarks in Brussels and later in Helsinki , Mitch McConnell , the highest-ranking Republican in the US Senate , addressed the European allies directly: “We value NATO as the most important military alliance in world history that the countries of the European Union are our friends, the Russians are not. ” McConnell also responded to concerns that Trump and Putin may have made arrangements in a four-way conversation at the expense of the EU or NATO .
Germany scolding is now part of the standard repertoire of Trump . In the Fox interview, he said Chancellor Angela Merkel had suffered great political damage as a result of her refugee policy. “Angela was a superstar until she allowed millions of people to come to Germany, she was unbeatable in all elections.” Her migration policy changed that. “Immigration has hurt her very badly.” Trump called the immigration policy in Europe a disaster.
Trump also addressed the opposition Democratic Party in the US in the Fox interview . “The Democrats want open borders, which basically means that we want open borders, we want crime.” Asked by moderator Tucker Carlson, Trump said, “Maybe it’s a political philosophy they grew up with, maybe they learned that at school, maybe they’re fools, I do not know.”
The opposition criticizes Trump’s zero-tolerance policy on the southern border of the US , which among other things has led to the separation of numerous refugee families. But it does not demand the opening of borders.
