"Glass" and Shyamalan smash the box office

“Verre”, the latest installment of a trilogy of superheroes by Night Shyamalan, has taken the lead in the North American box office, according to provisional figures released Sunday by the specialized company Exhibitor Relations.

The film brings together the worlds of the film “Unbreakable” (2000) and “Split” (2016) and its heroes: Bruce Willis in indestructible vigilante, James McAvoy in super-bad with superhuman strength and Samuel L. Jackson in collector comics with Machiavellian intelligence suffering from the disease of glass bones.

The feature film distributed by Universal has accumulated $ 40.6 million between Friday and Sunday in the United States and Canada.

It dethrones “The Upside”, American adaptation of the film-French phenomenon “Untouchables”, which generated $ 15.7 million for its second week.

With Bryan Cranston as a wealthy quadriplegic of the posh Upper East Side in New York, and Kevin Hart in his nursing assistant from the Bronx, this adaptation still leads “Aquaman”, third.

The superhero played by Jason Momoa (Lord Dothraki Khal Drogo in “Game of Thrones”) still collected $ 10.3 million for his fifth week. Last week he passed the one billion mark worldwide, a first for a DC Comics movie since 2012 and the Batman “The Dark Knight Rises”.

A novelty, “Dragon Ball Super: Broly”, latest adaptation of the famous manga “Dragon Ball Z”, ranks fourth with $ 9 million in revenue.

The animated film “Spider-Man: New Generation”, in which a new black and Latin spider-man, Miles Morales, takes the front of the stage in front of a Peter Parker confined to a role of mentor, retrograde to the fifth $ 7.2 million, or $ 160.1 million in six weeks.
